NEW ROVING FOR 2017!!!

I am a terrible blogger. I don't even know if any of my followers are still with me....are you? Please let me know if you are out there in cyberspace by saying hello. If no one says hello, my feelings will not be hurt. I am reaping what I sow which is nothing until now so, okay.

That said, I ran into a problem with my wool roving. My supplier moved away to another state (alas) but will return this year under the ownership of a new California wool mill which is super exciting! Check out their Face Book page: (https://www.facebook.com/valleyoakwoolmill/?ref=nf).

In the meantime, I have had to find a new source for my roving and I believe I have hit on a terrific product for you! It is from Australia and is 100% combed Merino wool-superfine. It has a diameter of 19.5 microns and is deliciously soft.

Here is a photo of it before dyeing:

I was a bit concerned about the softness- would it be okay for spinners? Compared to my original product, which was Romney wool, this stuff is like whipped cream! The Romney was like a burlap bag....Um...yeah. This new stuff is in a whole different league. I hope my spinners out there will like this because for sure you want some "grip" as you spin....I hope some of you will try it and let me know because I am not a spinner.  I will report back on that.  Felters should be in heaven.

So I presoaked my first 8 ounces of "cloud" wool:

...and dyed it a deep black as you can see...

It took the dyes so well! It was super easy to do and the distribution of color is perfection. A tiny bit of felting happened while in the dye bath but that was easy to fix by gently opening the coils when it dried.

I also dyed some mottled purple to see how the color dispersed when wanting something other than a solid color....

Super happy with this run too!

Here is a close-up. The absorption of color is perfect and the feel after dyeing is still soft and springy.

So all in all, I am extremely happy with the results and am pleased to offer you this fine product. The price is higher than the Romney but you are getting a nicer wool.  Another perk is that I can fit three skeins of 8 ounce wool in a box for shipping rather than two so you will save on shipping costs in the USA.

Undyed, 8 ounces- $20.00
Hand dyed, 8 ounces- $38.00
Custom color runs-8 ounces, starts at $40.00

(I love this goat!)

Happy 2017, everyone.
