Tuesday

No pictures today.
I am so mad at myself! I ironed the front side panels and was laying out the pieces and found the first backing had been cut 1/2" too narrow. Unbelievable. Were they ALL that way? You know that cold, prickly sweat that breaks out on your forehead and that roller coaster swoop that grips your stomach when you realize you've just dug yourself into a deep fiber art hole? Picture that right about here.....No, thank goodness. Just the one.
So......I pulled myself together and cut another panel and dyed it all by it's lonesome self. It's now drying in the laundry room because it looks like it is going to rain.
Let this be an object lesson for my students- see how important it is to keep a dyeing journal? All I had to do (she says) was find the notes for the recipe for the backings and adjust a bit because I was only dyeing one rather than all the yardage and there you have it. Back in the game!
Sometimes my head is just off in the clouds. I would like to replay the tape and see what I was thinking when I cut that one...do you ever do that? Something that should be so simple becomes a BIG old hairy project because you simply made an error somewhere at the beginning of the process.
What's that saying? Measure twice, cut once? For me...it's measure 6 or 7 times and hopefully cut only once but be prepared to cut several times. Dumb bunny.
I'm going off to the courts to squeeze in some tennis before the first rain drops hit the ground. A few nicely placed put away shots should do me good. "Gimme some overheads!" Tennis anyone?
See you tomorrow.

Marjie, Your miscutting adventure is the story of my life. I've never made drapes without cutting at least one panel too short.
You'll be back on track today and the banners will all finish nicely.

M -- my heart was in my throat, I know exactly what you mean...and it always seems to happen on a project that is for someone else...or a tight deadline! Tennis will definitely clear your head for the next step. The pieces are looking just fabulous; I can hardly wait for a full shot!

My cheerleaders! Thank you for your breath holding and hand holding and head holding.
Today is a new day. Not only did the "extra" side panel turn out great but at the same time I was dyeing that piece, I threw in a piece of silk velvet (in another dye bath) that is a custom color match for the next HUGE project looming in the background. It came out smashingly well so hooray and hallelujiah, I'm happy to be back on track.

The silk velvet test run is for the final okay with a church in Tennessee that is commissioning me to make acoustical panels for their church which is meeting in a converted gymnasium. VERY live. I will post my travels with them after this one is completed. Busy times!
Thanks everyone.

Marjie,

I have made 'cutting' mistakes also, and I try to repeat that mantra about measuring (at least) twice and cutting once while I'm about to cut. I did it just recently on a quilt back I pieced. Fortunately I allowed myself extra, so it came out OK. But. My head is often in the clouds too. I need to come back to earth more often!:)

We joined Costco awhile back, and I have been saving the tops of their gallon milk containers to use for dyeing (with clamps). I probably won't get to it till summer, though.

The panels look great! Can't wait to see the finished product!
