Remember all that purple silk velvet I dyed? Here is how part of it is being transformed into fiber art. The background is hand dyed cotton and the strips are the silk velvet and the colorful shibori dyed section is also silk velvet. It's called "Hot Flash". I will show you how it progresses as I have time to work on it.
Project #2 is slow in getting back to me so I am moving on to Project #3 which arrived when I wasn't looking. No Grumpy UPS Guy- instead it was Happy US Post Office Guy.
Pictured above (It's sideways. Sorry) are three bolts of silk for me to cut up and a truck load of dyes for A'kai Silks in Hawaii. It will become 50 belly dancing veils. It will be a total of 150 yards of habotai silk transformed into lusciousness. Just pinch me in because I think I am dreaming. This is work. This is my job. Badda bing! Am I the most blessed person alive or what????

Here is one bolt cut into the sections waiting for the dyes. More tomorrow!
By the way, the banners arrived safely in Texas.

Wow! As my mom used to say, you've got enough to do to keep you off the streets. I love Hot Flash; can't wait to see how it progresses.
Seriously, how do you get it all done? Your art, teaching classes at QU, etc.
Hummm...how do I get it all done? Interesting question. 7:30 to about 9 I work on QU classes and email orders and correspondence. Then I eat breakfast. 10-12 I dye orders or work on commissions. Eat lunch and then from 12:30-about 2 I work some more on orders/commissions and by 2:30-3 I am out the door WALKING orders to the post office and then beyond so that I can get in 10,000 steps per day. Sometimes I walk to the grocery store and bank as well if I need the miles and it's a lovely day so that I can think and pray at the same time. It's my alone time with God. I'm usually home by 4 and if I can, I try to read and rest for an hour. If I don't have the time and am really pressed, I will finish up a project/order/commission and then fix dinner and eat with my husband and on Tuesday, Thursdays and Saturdays I play tennis with my buddies. I like to play competitively which starts in a few weeks on Tuesday nights.
Weekends I try to stay away from fabric and recover. Oh, and Monday nights I teach a Bible Study here at the house so Mondays I prep for that at lunch time and in between the other stuff. It does seem like a lot. Sunday is church. That goes from 10-1. Sometimes we have small group Sunday nights which I LOVE. I like to stay busy and sandwich time when there aren't any orders to fill with friends. Oh one other thing that is way cool is every other Thursday from 12-2 I help teach a cooking class for low income women.
There ARE days when I don't do a whole lot. At the moment I don't have many of those so it's kind of a feast or famine deal. Right now I am feasting on work but thin on the down time which is okay because I had TWO complete days with NO work after the banners were finished and I soaked those two days for every ounce of rest I could get. Lovely!
Hot Flash is wonderful; is there anything more luscious than hand-dyed silk velvet???
