Day Two - A Week at FabricDesigns.com

This is my breakfast table with the sun coming in on what is left of my summer garden flowers. This morning, I did my usual quiet time stuff before jumping into the day. It always starts with checking and answering email, printing off orders, and checking on my QuiltUniversity.com student's progress in the Discussion Forum.

9:00 a.m. I packaged up my one order that will be going to Canada.

Next thing to do is to iron the order of black cotton that I dyed up yesterday. I was so excited about posting my first blog that I said it was for a customer in Australia...it's not. She lives in Singapore. My mistake. Thank you for the correction, Brooke. Imagine living so far away and not a single place where she can get a good hand dyed piece of black mottled cotton. The Internet rocks!

Iron the scarf next. It's beautiful!

Time to finish the drawings of the commission pieces for the church in Alberta. The camera was balanced so carefully! It fell over... good pic of me, eh?

Scan the pics and send them to the church in Canada for the first round of discussions.

3:00 p.m. Time to go to the Post Office. Have to stand in line again today as I have one package to go to Canada and one to Singapore. The place was jumping. Lots of screaming kids with runny noses and one old guy who needed ONE stamp. This is Ruby. She drives a very cool yellow and black Mustang. She knows her postal stuff. There are three women at the main post office who run the world- Ruby, Ana and Luz. They know I use a credit card- not debit. They know it's fabric. They know I'm not going to blow anything or anyone up or send fireworks or guns to terrorists in Afghanistan. God bless these women. They make my life so much easier.

Back at the studio, I start an art piece that has been burning in my head for about 3 months. I did a smaller version in
Myrna's Self Expressions class at QuiltUniversity.com. Now I am ready to do a HUGE version of the same thing. You can see how it unfolds as the week goes by. This is the first row sewn in place. Hand dyed fabric on a base of raw silk. That's all I'm going to tell you today.

So...add to this day some tennis, a trip to the gym, a nap, lunch with one of my "Three Mighty Men" and a walk with my husband and the dogs and there you have it.

I have "Three Mighty Men" in my life who are actually mighty women (and there are actually four). King David of Israel had three mighty men who fought with him and were loyal and strong and had this is common- they each persevered under terrible circumstances. The entire Israeli army chickened out on each of them at crucial moments but they remained faithful and fought to the end. I have four women friends who I call my "Mighty Men". I hope you each have at least one who will stand with you when the battles rage.

Happy dyeing everyone.

Note to self- try and get the fonts the same and try to get the words to flow better. Sheesh! Learning, learning. Sorry everyone.
